Master Chalmers, which should I choose?

A small ad on techonomics.se

Soon even a choice that affects my future to be made. What should I do / study the next two years and in what discipline should I get my Master?

As a student at the Industrial Engineering at Chalmers, it is possible to take some different degree. After three years, and can be completed candidate's work may Bachelor removed and after another two years obtained a master's in some area, and a Swedish engineer in Insutriell Economics.

As I-are the choice lies between Supply Chain Management , Management and ecnomics of Innovation and Quality and Operations Management . These programs are specific to the Industrial Economics and guarantee me a place. In addition to these programs, all at Chalmers can read such International Project Management and Business Design . These programs have intakes on ratings and experience, and a final screening by means of interviews. Business Design is what seems most serious and is the hardest. Students may apply, depending on direction, to start a business during the studies. They receive professional coaching and many succeed. Business concepts can be obtained from Chalmers in the form of a seed to a new technical solution.

I want to read the Business Design. Unfortunately is not possible, since I arrived at UNSW. Business Design is namely no elective courses and also do not allow you go in the middle of training to get back a year later and connect to another group / company. I therefore face the choice between three programs all have pros and cons:

Management and Economics of Innovation

Management and Ecnonmics of Innovation, or MEI as the program is also called, is all about business and how enterprises can profit from innovations. It is more theoretical compared to Bussiness design. Or it is certainly not practical in the sense that students have the chance to start a business.

Of course it is impossible to know how I will enjoy the training. However, I think I prefer to work in management than quality and market, which the other programs oriented towards. Because of this reason, the gut MEI. However, the program gave a bad impression when I talked to him. He did not seem willing to accept courses from foreign universities.

Quality and Operations Management

Quality and statistics are two subjects that interested me during my studies. However, I am less fond of operations management. The program has a large project in addition to the thesis, which hampers the ability to find suitable courses abroad. They were sympathetic, and it is very possible that it can be solved.

Supply Chain Management

Supply Chain Management is about being able to understand and cope with the complexity that exists in a supply chain (or network depending on perspective). Logistics and transportation are the main focus of the training:

An important way for a company to improvement ITS Competitiveness ice to Apply Supply Chain Management (SCM). This program is given you the opportunity to developement your skills in purchasing, logistics, marketing, transportation and general management.

Again, it is difficult to assess how I would feel comfortable with the training. Of the courses I've ever read, logistics course been among the best, but it was not fun. I would not want to work as a buyer or seller. A plus is the program's approach to studying abroad and credit courses.

Below I list a matrix for how I rank my options. Please help me make the choice!

Yes you d, it really was not an easy question to "force" us to respond to the above. I still think you should go on your gut feeling when you choose, and what you thought was the most fun in the early years. It would then imply MEI or Qom.

I voted on MEI above because I still think you would think it would be fun. I also think that it could become a great and fun mix if you combine it with a little computer / IT courses. You will definitely become a hot and sought after change in the labor ;)

I have a small idea .... to attend classes from their masters. Ideally, it is supposed to be the first two lessons in a course so that you both get an idea of how the course should be (and content) and how the lecturer is.

Reads Fna in Qom (hence the only voice of Qom). I am the only one I switch from my year as chosen direction (estimates that about 90% chose MEI), and I am tremendously excited about my choice.

After 3 years of Ind. Ek. I feel that it would be very nice with a avtramp from "fuzzy equality" and to actually learn some practical tools that can be applied in industry. I am afraid to get my degree and feel that I "do not know anything." Another benefit that you notice as soon as you start is that Chalmers is a really big name in quality, and Professor Bo Bergman is a bit of a star across the world, which means that you are often invited to interesting events with speakers from Singapore, China and so on. They mention all the idols Bo - and it feels pretty cool to have him as a lecturer.

So: select Qom if you want practical tools you can directly use. In addition there is a large number of exchange students, which I feel is very positive as they both think and act tremendously different. To solve problems with such a varied group is very difficult (and thus enormously instructive!).

    Good luck in your choice!

    • Hi Jacob,
Glad you are happy and gives me a comment!
If I am to be honest, I've actually swung from my first + / - list. I feel that MEI enough, it is fuzzy thing you can choose. I like not their megalomania and unwillingness to accept the courses for me to study abroad for one year. We had a presentation from the programs a few weeks ago and then did Qom very well. I had a gut feeling that you can actually learn something!
