Vasaloppet

Vasaloppet - 08:33:07 - 9 mil Salen to Mora

Vasaloppet is an ancient enrichment event that dates far back in time. The first race was held for about 500 years ago (1520), when Gustav Vasa fled from the Danish King Christian II. The flight went on skis from Dalarna to Norway. 400 years later, in 1922, was the second race. The time was more than seven hours. Today the top down at times for 4 hours.

My race did not go as fast. But the time to even it was extremely funny.

Preparation

I've always been a person who loved sports and exercise. I am thinking above all of team sports like football and ice hockey. Sometimes, when the weather in Vasteras has permitted, I have gone some skiing. No longer distances, up to one mil in a row.

Due to various circumstances coincidence it so happened that my girlfriend (the category of cross-country skiers) was injured before the race. This was a free ticket and I took the opportunity to set up. I invested in student grant new skis, boots and poles. Then I jumped on the bus with OK Landehof to start in Bergaby, Salen. Spontaneous but still exciting!

We arrived at Salen after a few hours bus ride. Once there, we picked out our bibs. Despite all of my routine I ended up in last start group. The group where the mass starts. To wait was half an hour of queuing before fösta could begin to climb the hill (Vasaloppet applies namely traditional mass start).

The race

Preparations for the race began on Saturday. We went to Mångsbodarna to test skis and waxing concept. Waxing was, what I would understand, the biggest topic of conversation over the weekend.
Cold wax, or a mixture kliseter? With my mix, I had a nice during freezing, resulting in substantial opposition. The anxiety grew: With this wax tomorrow it will be tough! Best to be on the safe side and put on more cool wax (it should turn out to be much bakhalt).

I woke in the morning and started to bunch the sleeping bag. The idea struck me that there would be a tough day. Outside the snow and 9 mil without a trace. The first hill was as expected, long time and was very unfriendly. Then it was just to stake on.

Results

I'm happy with my results. UNSEEDED I got up in the final stage and drove me up 3237 points. Disregarding the first streckan time is also quite good. Next year there will be a better startled!

Conclusion

It went well. I was definitely wanting more and will return next year. After Vasaloppet I decided to make a classic!

Hot Tips

Here are my hot tips ...

Energy - GEL!

Many are betting that drink carbohydrate drinks several weeks before the race. I think not so much. The effect is marginal.

My model is to eat properly and take it easy the week before. In the course works blueberry soup good. One tip is to include some GEL to the end. These provide a clearly noticeable energy boost when fatigue creeps on.

Cost

1200 for the ticket and the same amount of accommodation you can expect. However, you can find tickets on the spot for a few hundred if you dare wait for the sold out it will be ...

Remember that you must join a ski club.

Equipment

Go for the correct length of rods and comfortable boots. It gets very stakåkning.

Waxing

Carry a tube of red glue (Rossa). It's good when it softens down Mora.

Seeding

Want to start from a point further on is the time to go one seedingslopp. Matilla Ski Marathon is one example.

Training

I'm no expert on the Vasa, I can hardly diagonal. My experience is that it is very stakåkning, train arms shoulders and stomach anyways you all the way.
